Yocum Institute presents ‘Art Dog’

-

WEST LAWN >> “Art Dog” is now playing at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education, Schumo Theater, 3000 Penn Ave., West Lawn, on March 23 at 10 a.m., March 24 at 2 p.m. and March 30 at 11 a.m.

Art Dog, produced with permission from Plays for Young Audiences, is based on the children’s book by Thacher Hurd by the same title. The show is written by John Olive with music by Sue Ennis.

Director is Joel Gori and musical directors are Shawn Gable, Vocals, Lars Potteiger Piano. The show features Michael Dotterer, Shawn Gable, Katie Grey and Beverly Houck.

“Art Dog” features live music, zany chase scenes and fun for the whole family following the adventures of a canine superhero. By day, Arthur is a mildmannered museum guard; by night, his alter ego, Art Dog, is a mysterious artist who makes the city his canvas. However, when Leonardo Dog Vinci’s Mona Woofa goes missing from the Dogopolis Museum of Art, Art Dog is the prime suspect! Not to be deterred, our hero paints his way out of a jail and collars the thieves with his brush strokes. While the town applauds his heroism and celebrates his artistic brilliance, the only thing still at large is Art Dog’s true identity.

Other members of the creative team include Stage Manager Jody Reppert, Set Design and Painting Nadia PerfectRisnyk, Set Painting Tammy Updegrove, Costume Design Rebeka Birch, Lighting Design Jeff Cusano and Arethusa Design, Projections Tyler Reppert and Beverly Houck. All artwork is inspired by the works of Thacher Hurd.
