Boyertown students win contest
Reagan Williams won the Optimist Club of Boyertown oratorical contest based on the theme of “Staying Optimistic in Challenging Times.”
Williams was awarded first place. Evan James was the runner-up. Both are Boyertown School District students.
“Reagan and Evan did a wonderful job presenting their speeches about the questions posed to them,” said program chair Phil Haddad. “The members of our Optimist Club have no doubt that Reagan and Evan have a bright future ahead of them.”
“I am super proud of my students for preparing and competing in the Optimist Oratorical Contest,” said Boyertown teacher Tina Schrode-Fries. “They are not only speaking to the topic of optimism but they embody it. I am really excited for them to move on to the district level!”
Both students will be sent to the district level where they will compete against contestants from the Atlantic Central District at the May 7 district conferences with a chance to win scholarship money for college.
“Thank you kindly to the Boyertown Optimist Club for holding these great educational events for students,” said Tina Schrode-Fries. “We are fortunate to have an Optimist Club that supports our community in so many ways.”
“We look forward to working with the students of the Boyertown School District and surrounding school districts next year,” said Haddad.
