Salvation Army seeks donations to support new Canteen truck
Emergency response vehicle assists community, first responders on scene
The Salvation Army of Boyertown seeks the community’s help to raise $10,000 to support the new Salvation Army Canteen, a vehicle that provides food support and service to community members and first responders on the scene of local and regional emergencies.
“This is a brand-new custom emergency response vehicle that will be used to assist the community and first responders of the community,” said Capt. Joseph Smith, corps officer at The Salvation Army of Boyertown. “We are excited to announce that The Salvation Army of Boyertown has taken delivery of the new canteen. This is made possible from the generous donations from this wonderful community.”
Started in 1957, the Boyertown canteen service received its first emergency disaster service vehicle in 1958. In 1982, funds were raised to purchase a new canteen. After many years of service The Salvation Army of Boyertown again fundraised for a new canteen in 2004. The latest new vehicle was delivered on Feb. 18, 2023.
“We are better equip to meet the growing needs of the community and beyond,” said Smith.
Smith explained that the Salvation Army of Boyertown currently has a canteen that is used for serving first responders and residents of the Berks, Montgomery, and surrounding counties. This special vehicle provides food support and service to community members and first responders on the scene of local and regional emergencies.
