70th Annual Boyertown Citizen of the Year Gala:
5to 8p.m. at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. Proceeds will benefit the citizen of the year winner’s choice of charity. Honored will be Citizen of the Year Ken Hunt, Mentor of the Year Jeff Shontz, First Responder of the Year James Boyer, Outstanding Senior of the Year Samantha Jo Dolansky, and Special Recognition Award recipient Boyertown Area Historical Society. APRIL 21 History Talk with Bob Wood — The Story of Indian Eve:
1 to 2 p.m. at Studio B Art Gallery, 39A E. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown, presented by guest speaker Sandra Kring Leonard, a descendent of Indian Eve. Born in New Hanover in 1740, Eve Hilbert Ernst and two children were taken hostage by Indians in Bedford County in 1777and forced to walk to Fort Detroit where she was later rescued by the British Military. Eight years later they walked home. Designer Bag Bingo: noon at St. Benedict’s FLC, 2020Chestnut Hill Road, Mohnton. 1001 Voices on Climate Change: 2p.m. free program in Hopewell Furnace Visitor Center Theatre, 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson. Earth Day presentation by author Devi Lockwood, commentary and ideas editor for the Philadelphia Inquirer and author of the book “1001Voices on Climate Change” on Lockwood’s travels around the world, often by bicycle, collecting first-person accounts of climate change. Seating in theater is limited, arrive early.
APRIL 23 Habitat for Humanity of Berks County’s 8th annual Birdhouse Challenge:
5:30to 8:30p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Reading. Food, drinks, entertainment, raffles and the chance to bid on hand-crafted birdhouses.
