Re­port: Colorado to hire Ge­or­gia as­sis­tant coach

Colorado is ex­pected to hire Ge­or­gia de­fen­sive co­or­di­na­tor Mel Tucker as its new head foot­ball coach, ac­cord­ing to a re­port from ESPN on Sat­ur­day.

The an­nounce­ment from Colorado was ex­pected to come af­ter the SEC Cham­pi­onship Game, which was played Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon with Ge­or­gia fac­ing Alabama.

Colorado dis­puted that re­port, how­ever, Ath­letic di­rec­tor Rick Ge­orge “has not of­fered the head coach­ing po­si­tion to any­one at this point; he is still in the dis­cus­sion and eval­u­a­tion stages and won’t make a de­ci­sion on a fi­nal can­di­date un­til early next week,” Colorado ath­letic depart­ment spokem­san David Plati said in an email to the Athens Ban­ner-Her­ald.

Tucker would be re­plac­ing Mike MacIn­tyre, who went 30-44 at Colorado.

He was fired Nov. 18 with one game re­main­ing in the Buf­faloes’ sea­son.
