Charles scores 24, No. 4 Mary­land edges Ohio State

Kaila Charles scored 24 points, Stephanie Jones added 16 and No. 4 Mary­land slipped past vis­it­ing Ohio State 75-69 on Sat­ur­day in a re­match of the 2018 Big Ten ti­tle game.

Com­ing off an upset loss to Rut­gers, the Ter­rap­ins (13-1, 2-1) never re­ally got into a groove against the re­tooled Buck­eyes (4-8, 0-3). Mary­land trailed

62-61 with 5:25 left, went ahead 70-66 on a 3-pointer by Tay­lor Mike­sell with 3:04 to go and held on.

Ohio State made only one bas­ket over the fi­nal four min­utes while be­ing outscored 9-3.

No. 17 Gon­zaga 88, Pa­cific 65: Zyk­era Rice scored 21 points, Jenn Wirth added 16 and No. 17 Gon­zaga turned up the de­fen­sive pres­sure to win its 11th straight game, over vis­it­ing Pa­cific. Jill Townsend added 13 points for the Bull­dogs (15-1, 4-0 West Coast Con­fer­ence), who went 23 of 36 in the mid­dle two quar­ters and held the Tigers (9-4, 2-1) to 10 of 26. No. 25 Iowa State 82, Kansas 73: Brid­get Car­leton scored 33 points on 11-of-17 shoot­ing, mov­ing up two spots in Iowa State’s all-time top 10 scor­ing last, and the No. 25 Cy­clones de­feated host Kansas. Kristin Scott had a per­fect day shoot­ing go­ing 7 for 7 with three 3-point­ers for 17 points for the Cy­clones (12-2, 2-0 Big 12). Car­leton moved up to sev­enth on the ca­reer list with her 29th 20-point game.
