Charles scores 24, No. 4 Maryland edges Ohio State
Kaila Charles scored 24 points, Stephanie Jones added 16 and No. 4 Maryland slipped past visiting Ohio State 75-69 on Saturday in a rematch of the 2018 Big Ten title game.
Coming off an upset loss to Rutgers, the Terrapins (13-1, 2-1) never really got into a groove against the retooled Buckeyes (4-8, 0-3). Maryland trailed
62-61 with 5:25 left, went ahead 70-66 on a 3-pointer by Taylor Mikesell with 3:04 to go and held on.
Ohio State made only one basket over the final four minutes while being outscored 9-3.
No. 17 Gonzaga 88, Pacific 65: Zykera Rice scored 21 points, Jenn Wirth added 16 and No. 17 Gonzaga turned up the defensive pressure to win its 11th straight game, over visiting Pacific. Jill Townsend added 13 points for the Bulldogs (15-1, 4-0 West Coast Conference), who went 23 of 36 in the middle two quarters and held the Tigers (9-4, 2-1) to 10 of 26. No. 25 Iowa State 82, Kansas 73: Bridget Carleton scored 33 points on 11-of-17 shooting, moving up two spots in Iowa State’s all-time top 10 scoring last, and the No. 25 Cyclones defeated host Kansas. Kristin Scott had a perfect day shooting going 7 for 7 with three 3-pointers for 17 points for the Cyclones (12-2, 2-0 Big 12). Carleton moved up to seventh on the career list with her 29th 20-point game.
