Home care aide suspected of multiple fraudulent purchases

The Buffalo News - - LOCAL NEWS -

Investigators are trying to determine whether $3,500 in charges to a Wheatfield woman’s debit card were deliberate or merely an accident, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reported.

A Crestwood Court woman reported 65 unauthorized transactions on the Amazon Marketplace website, beginning Dec. 26, authorities said. She said a home care aide asked to use that card to make a purchase for her on the Amazon website a few days before the fraudulent transactions began.

She told deputies that the aide told her that she accidentally used the card for several purchases, thinking she was using her own account. The aide claimed she used the card inadvertently, thinking she had eliminated the woman’s card number from her computer while apparently removing her own account number instead.
