Au­thors of book on Matt, prison break to speak

The au­thors of “He’s Out,” the story of con­victed killer Richard Matt and his 2015 break­out from a high-se­cu­rity state prison, will speak and sign books at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at the new North Ton­awanda His­tory Mu­seum, 712 Oliver St..

Matt’s daugh­ter, Jamie Scalise, and her co-au­thor, for­mer Buf­falo News re­porter Bob DiCe­sare, will be there. The event is free.

For­mer North Ton­awanda Po­lice Chief of De­tec­tives Gabe DiBernardo and four other re­tired de­tec­tives whose in­ves­ti­ga­tion led to a 2008 mur­der and kid­nap­ping con­vic­tion against Matt will also speak at the event.

Matt was shot and killed af­ter elud­ing cap­ture for sev­eral weeks. David Sweat, a fel­low pris­oner who tun­neled to free­dom with Matt, was re­cap­tured and sent back to prison.
