Martinsen to transfer from Virginia
Erica Martinsen, the 2016 Sister Maria Pares Buffalo News girls basketball Player of the Year after her sophomore season at Williamsville East, plans to transfer after her freshman year at the University of Virginia. After Williamsville East, Martinsen finished her high school career at prep schools.
At Virginia this season, she averaged 10.7 minutes per game in 26 appearances, scoring 4.7 points and grabbing 1.4 rebounds.
“After much consideration with my family over the past few months, I have decided that transferring from the University of Virginia will be best for my overall happiness and playing the sports I love,” she wrote on Twitter.
When contacted by The News, Martinsen said: “I want to go to a place where I know I’ll have a good role on the team. I want to make a difference in a program.” The coach who recruited Martinsen,
