Martin­sen to trans­fer from Vir­ginia

Erica Martin­sen, the 2016 Sis­ter Maria Pares Buf­falo News girls bas­ket­ball Player of the Year after her sopho­more sea­son at Wil­liamsville East, plans to trans­fer after her fresh­man year at the Univer­sity of Vir­ginia. After Wil­liamsville East, Martin­sen fin­ished her high school ca­reer at prep schools.

At Vir­ginia this sea­son, she av­er­aged 10.7 min­utes per game in 26 ap­pear­ances, scor­ing 4.7 points and grab­bing 1.4 re­bounds.

“After much con­sid­er­a­tion with my fam­ily over the past few months, I have de­cided that trans­fer­ring from the Univer­sity of Vir­ginia will be best for my over­all hap­pi­ness and play­ing the sports I love,” she wrote on Twit­ter.

When con­tacted by The News, Martin­sen said: “I want to go to a place where I know I’ll have a good role on the team. I want to make a dif­fer­ence in a pro­gram.” The coach who re­cruited Martin­sen,

abruptly re­tired after last sea­son to com­plete the adop­tion process for her 6-year-old daugh­ter. Hall of Famer who wasn’t with the Cava­liers, was hired as Boyles’ re­place­ment.
