Crys­tal Peo­ples-Stokes to key­note NAACP’s an­nual awards din­ner

State Assem­bly Ma­jor­ity Leader Crys­tal Peo­ples-Stokes will be the key­note speaker as the Buf­falo Branch NAACP holds its 53rd an­nual Medgar Ev­ers Awards din­ner at 6 p.m. June 8 in the Buf­falo Ni­a­gara Con­ven­tion Cen­ter. Peo­ples-Stokes is the first woman and first African-Amer­i­can to serve as ma­jor­ity leader.

The din­ner will in­clude pre­sen­ta­tion of the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s Youth Award, Ru­fus Frasier Hu­man Re­la­tions Award, Daniel R. Acker Com­mu­nity Ser­vice Award and the Medgar Ev­ers Civil Rights Award. Branch lead­ers also will re­view ef­forts dur­ing the past year to fur­ther civil rights, voter reg­is­tra­tion, en­trepreneur­ship, racial eq­uity and health.
