Democrats, minor parties file petitions in city, county races
The expected Democratic primary contest for Buffalo comptroller materialized last week when two additional candidates filed designating petitions. Board of Elections records indicate Scott J. Wilson Jr. and Vanessa A. Glushefski will challenge Barbara Miller-Williams for the Democratic nomination. Glushefski is acting comptroller following the resignation earlier this year of Mark J.F. Schroeder.
Also, the board received from attorney Peter A. Reese petitions to compete in the Democratic primary for county executive against Mark C. Poloncarz. Other late filings include Democrat Esther Smothers in the Common Council’s Lovejoy District; Taniqua Simmons as a Green candidate in Masten; Abi Echevarria as an Independence candidate in North; and Dorothea Franklin as a Green in University.
