A Buffalo police officer was hospitalized after his K9 vehicle was involved in a downtown crash Wednesday morning.

Buffalo Police Capt. Jeff Rinaldo said Officer Jared Domaracki, along with K9 Lehner, were responding to a “man with a gun” call at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday when another vehicle struck them at South Elmwood Avenue and Chippewa Street.

Rinaldo said Domaracki was in Erie County Medical Center being checked out for “what appears to be minor injuries.”

Lehner was taken to a veterinarian and “given a clean bill of health,” Rinaldo said.

Rinaldo said the department’s accident investigation and internal affairs units were investigating the crash.

Lehner was named for the late Lt. Craig Lehner, who died in a dive training accident in 2017.
