Felony hearing held for suspect in Elmwood Village arsons
A felony hearing was held Friday for a 20-year-old Buffalo man charged in a series of fires set early Tuesday while he allegedly burglarized five garages in the city’s Elmwood Village area.
According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Nathan Wasyl was charged in city court with five counts of third-degree arson, five counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, five counts of second-degree criminal mischief, three counts of thirddegree burglary, and one count each of second-degree burglary, petit larceny and trespass.
Wasyl is accused of setting garages on fire on Cleveland, Highland and Elmwood avenues and on Penhurst Place. The total damage was estimated at more than $800,000. Two firefighters suffered burns.
