out of my car, I could re­mem­ber the thrill

of stick­ing my face in the steam of a freshly

fin­ished dish­washer cy­cle. I used to drive fast

just to feel the pull on my skin. Some­times

I’d sleep out­side, naked, in a tent, wait­ing

for your car to pass. Your high beams

clicked on, drown­ing the fields, the deer,

fix­ated, barely graz­ing now, and me

in the grass, whis­per­ing to them, run.
