Man pleads guilty to 2016 at­tempted rape near Ge­ne­see Street and Michi­gan Av­enue

A Buf­falo man pleaded guilty to first-de­gree at­tempted rape for a 2016 in­ci­dent in down­town Buf­falo, the Erie County Dis­trict At­tor­ney’s Of­fice an­nounced Mon­day.

Ju­lian Wil­liamson, 24, pleaded guilty Fri­day be­fore State Supreme Court Jus­tice M. Wil­liam Boller.

Pros­e­cu­tors said that the de­fen­dant ad­mit­ted that on Aug. 11, 2016, at ap­prox­i­mately 2 a.m., he at­tempted to en­gage in sexual in­ter­course with an adult fe­male vic­tim by forcible com­pul­sion in the vicin­ity of Ge­ne­see Street and Michi­gan Av­enue. The de­fen­dant was not known to the vic­tim.

Wil­liamson faces a max­i­mum of 15 years in prison fol­lowed by 20 years of postre­lease su­per­vi­sion when he is sen­tenced May 24.

Dis­trict At­tor­ney John J. Flynn com­mended De­tec­tive Me­lanie Janusz of the Buf­falo Po­lice De­part­ment Sex Of­fense Squad for her work in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. The case was pros­e­cuted by As­sis­tant Dis­trict At­tor­ney Katharine S. Lavin of the DA’s Spe­cial Victims Bureau.
