Man pleads guilty to 2016 attempted rape near Genesee Street and Michigan Avenue
A Buffalo man pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted rape for a 2016 incident in downtown Buffalo, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Julian Williamson, 24, pleaded guilty Friday before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller.
Prosecutors said that the defendant admitted that on Aug. 11, 2016, at approximately 2 a.m., he attempted to engage in sexual intercourse with an adult female victim by forcible compulsion in the vicinity of Genesee Street and Michigan Avenue. The defendant was not known to the victim.
Williamson faces a maximum of 15 years in prison followed by 20 years of postrelease supervision when he is sentenced May 24.
District Attorney John J. Flynn commended Detective Melanie Janusz of the Buffalo Police Department Sex Offense Squad for her work in the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Katharine S. Lavin of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau.
