Eagles overpower Flames
Lake Shore is the only undefeated girls lacrosse team in Western New York, and it may take a super performance to knock off the Eagles.
Williamsville East, which had lost only twice and returned six starters from last year’s sectional finalists, figured to be a difficult opponent on Tuesday, especially on its home field.
Lake Shore (9-0) routed the Flames, 24-4, taking a 14-4 halftime lead and shutting out East the rest of the way. The Eagles are alone atop the Division II league in Section VI.
East’s previous losses were to Williamsville South and on Monday to Williamsville North despite three goals each by Lyla Militello and sophomore Courtney Maclay.
Amherst, which has only a loss to Division I Lancaster to mar its record, defeated Sweet Home, 15-8, behind a 12-point performance by Grace
Van Buren, who had nine goals and
St. Joe’s Kellen Pulera, who broke the Marauders’ career points record on Monday, scored six more goals Tuesday in his team’s 19-14 victory over Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse on St. Joe’s home field.
Hunter Parucki had three goals and two assists in the victory, the ninth of the season for the unbeaten Marauders.
Other goal scorers for the Marauders were Evan Mulderig (3), Ryan McGorry (3), Sam Latorre (2), Trey Gehen (1) and Trevor Willett (1). Austin Holley won 26 of 36 faceoffs and collected 21 ground balls. Latorre had seven ground balls. Jack Rapini
Eden senior lacrosse player Colby Sroda has signed his National Letter of Intent with St. Bonaventure.
A midfielder, Sroda scored 23 goals as a junior for Eden, which was the Class C runner-up in Section VI. Sroda ranks in the top 20 of his class.
