The fol­low­ing re­ports were com­piled from the Calvert County Sher­iff’s Of­fice, Mary­land State Po­lice Prince Fred­er­ick bar­rack and charg­ing doc­u­ments filed in court.

Lusby man al­leged to have lied about rob­bery of mother

Stephen An­thony Shaf­fer, 31, re­port­edly called the cops Sept. 8 to re­port an armed rob­bery, claim­ing he was forced “at gun­point” the day prior by his drug dealer to with­draw cash to pay for a debt he owned. From phone calls and text mes­sages, po­lice said they learned Shaf­fer had lied about the en­counter. Af­ter be­ing con­fronted, Shaf­fer re­port­edly ad­mit­ted Sept. 21 that he stole a debit card from his mother’s purse and with­drew $500 to buy crack co­caine, ac­cord­ing to charg­ing doc­u­ments.

Shaf­fer told Dfc. Joshua Buck that he “felt re­morse­ful and then sui­ci­dal” af­ter pur­chas­ing the drugs, Buck wrote in the po­lice re­port. Shaf­fer also re­port­edly said he knew he needed help with his ad­dic­tion and men­tal health is­sues. The of­fi­cer en­cour­aged him to re-en­roll in Walden, which he had left early that day. Shaf­fer was charged with theft and false state­ment to an of­fi­cer. look for a stu­dent with whom he had is­sues. His search for the stu­dent re­port­edly caused one teacher to stop teach­ing. Po­lice said Free­land did not find the stu­dent he was look­ing for. Free­land and his mother were es­corted out of the school and he was charged with tres­pass­ing and dis­turb­ing school op­er­a­tions.
