Lusby man alleged to have lied about robbery of mother
Stephen Anthony Shaffer, 31, reportedly called the cops Sept. 8 to report an armed robbery, claiming he was forced “at gunpoint” the day prior by his drug dealer to withdraw cash to pay for a debt he owned. From phone calls and text messages, police said they learned Shaffer had lied about the encounter. After being confronted, Shaffer reportedly admitted Sept. 21 that he stole a debit card from his mother’s purse and withdrew $500 to buy crack cocaine, according to charging documents.
Shaffer told Dfc. Joshua Buck that he “felt remorseful and then suicidal” after purchasing the drugs, Buck wrote in the police report. Shaffer also reportedly said he knew he needed help with his addiction and mental health issues. The officer encouraged him to re-enroll in Walden, which he had left early that day. Shaffer was charged with theft and false statement to an officer. look for a student with whom he had issues. His search for the student reportedly caused one teacher to stop teaching. Police said Freeland did not find the student he was looking for. Freeland and his mother were escorted out of the school and he was charged with trespassing and disturbing school operations.
