William “Butch” Joseph Jenkins Jr.
William “Butch” Joseph Jenkins Jr. of Port Orange, FL, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2018, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph Jenkins Sr. and Margaret Ruth (Kramer) Jenkins.
Dedicated and steadfast, Butch was born in Washington, DC, on Sept. 22, 1941, the eldest of siblings Gary and Ruth Ann. He was baptized in the Catholic Church. He spent the majority of his adult life as a resident of North Beach, MD, and was a 48 year member of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department, where he held various administrative positions: president, secretary and treasurer. He was also chairman and member of numerous committees in the Calvert County and Southern Maryland Associations. He was a past president of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Association and served as North Beach Volunteer Fire Department’s delegate to the Maryland State Fireman’s Association. He was inducted to the Calvert County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association and the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Associations Hall of Fame. His employment spanned 42 years with the Pennsylvania Railroad, which later became Amtrak.
Butch wed his second wife Iris Denise (Young) Ringer of Maryland in 1986 and relocated to Florida in 2010. An avid Washington Redskins football fan, Butch also enjoyed bowling, country music, music of the 1950’s, golfing, hunting, the ocean, playing cards, poker, slot machines, and traveling.
Butch is survived by his wife of 32 years, Iris Denise Jenkins; his children: Rebecca Leigh Jenkins and fiancé Dominic Ciccarello; William Joseph Jenkins III and his wife Michelle; stepson, Kirk Everett Ringer; siblings: Gary Jenkins and wife Eileen; Ruth Ann Freestand and husband Bill; grandchildren: Daniel Jenkins, Hannah Roberts; two great grandchildren; niece, Alexandra; and nephew, Kern Freeland.
