Winter shelter for the homeless available in the tri-county area
The three Southern Maryland counties each have a program for people who are homeless to spend winter nights. All three programs require participants to be homeless to qualify.
• In Calvert County, Safe Nights has started to provide winter shelter for county residents. The program is expected to run for about 20 weeks. Call Safe Nights of Calvert County at 443-486-8670 or email calvert[email protected] for more information. Walk-ins are not accepted.
• In St. Mary’s County, the Wrapping Arms ‘Round Many program, known as WARM, started earlier this month. People can drop by or call the Department of Social Services in St. Mary’s at 240-895-7000 to be referred to the program.
• In Charles County, nonprofit LifeStyles runs a program that is also called Safe Nights. For more information, LaShawn Lanham, the organization’s homeless services manager, can be reached at 301609-9900 or cy[email protected]sofmd.org.
