Bertamae Irene (Whiting) Caudle died at home in Millersvil­le, Maryland, on August 9, 2018. She was born at her Grandmothe­r’s house on Fait Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 5, 1924 to Charles Daniel Whiting and Alverter Boyce Whiting. During the early part of WWII, she worked for British Airways. “Bert” grew up in Baltimore City, and spent summers during the Great Depression at her Grandparen­t’s summer home on White’s Cove, in Pasadena, Maryland, now called White’s Pond.

At the end of WWII, she met her pen pal, Tech Sergeant Mervin Braxton Caudle “Mr. Bob”, upon his return from serving the duration of the war in the Pacific Campaign and married him ten days later. Their marriage lasted 54 years.

Bertamae loved crossword puzzles, cats, sharing stories of growing up on White’s Cove during the Great Depression, shopping, and donating to animal charities. She is survived by her son, Ronald Caudle, daughter Peggy Caudle, son Charles Caudle, daughter Irene Haas, and grandchild­ren Sue Keen, Robert Caudle, and Carmen Caudle, and six greatgrand­children, and two great-great-grandchild­ren. She was preceded in death by her husband “Mr. Bob” Caudle, and daughters Frances Caudle and Drusilla Caudle.
