ART IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY Season 9 of this enthralling visual arts series visits three new cities with a vibrant art scene to explore the relationship between local artists and place — specifically, the one in which they live and work. In the first of tonight’s new back-to-back hours, the series travels to Johannesburg, South Africa, the artistic capital of the continent’s sub-Saharan region. The four featured artists come from different places, yet they all want to use their art to pursue their visions for a beautiful future. An hour on Berlin immediately follows. In the season premiere, David meets a Florida couple who won millions via a scratch-off ticket. Currently renters, they want a roomy home with a pool for entertaining, while their teenage daughter hopes for enough land around the place to ride horses. (TVG) 9 p.m. on HGTV WYNONNA EARP A mysterious female — yes, another one — who seems to know far too much about the Earp clan’s tangled history arrives without notice on the family homestead, announcing that she has a special mission for Wynonna and Waverly (Melanie Scrofano, Dominique ProvostChalkley) in a new episode called ‘The Other Woman.” The sisters are understandably wary, but their friends are otherwise occupied with an even less appealing task: wrangling a deadly fire witch. (TV14) 9 p.m. on SYFY ANIMALS Temporarily on the outs with each other, rat buddies Mike and Phil are forced to reunite after they receive a strange missive summoning them to “The Democratic Republic of Kitty City,” which is a feline section of town that’s walled off from the outside world (and also the title of this new episode). If nothing else, the journey there gives the erstwhile buddies a chance to rehash their personal issues and ponder their future goals for New York’s animals. (TVMA) 11:30 p.m. on HBO
