Residents hold fundraiser for Odenton Volunteer Fire Company

- — Gerry McIntyre

The residents of Cedar Ridge, a 55-plus active adult community, held a fundraiser for the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company on Sept. 15.

A total of $4,985 was collected and presented on Sept. 26 at the OVFC firehouse. President David Lewis, Vice President Wylie Donaldson, Chief Charles Rogers and Assistant Head of Public Education Dustin Hontz graciously accepted the donation from Cedar Ridge Master Board Vice President Joan Athen, Shirley Ripple and fundraiser co-chair Gerry McIntyre.

Following the presentation, the firefighters explained the mission of the OVFC, equipment and Company 28’s volunteer status and said the donation would be put towards equipment and training.

Residents collected donations from the 11-building community, opened the pool, grilled hot dogs and held a prize raffle, all in support of the local fire/emergency medical services volunteers.

A group of on-duty firefighters came down to enjoy some hot dogs and meet those they help. The residents of Cedar Ridge really appreciate the efforts of this volunteer group; they help, rescue and actually save lives, so it was nice to have them visit so residents could personally say “thank you.”

This fundraiser was so successful that Cedar Ridge hopes to make it an annual event.
