Flames pay price with 2 suspensions
Flames defenseman Mark Giordano was suspended for two games by NHL on Friday night for kneeing, and forward Ryan Lomberg was suspended for a game and head coach Bill Peters fined $10,000.
Giordano, the Flames’ captain, was assessed a tripping penalty after kneeing the Wild’s Mikko Koivu on Thursday night in the third period of the Flames’ 2-0 home victory.
Late in the game, Lomberg went after Matt Dumba after the Wild defenseman steamrolled Flames center Mikael Backlund. Instigating in the final five minutes resulted in Lomberg’s automatic suspension and Peters’ fine.
■ RW Nikita Scherbak’s debut with the Kings was pushed back another game due to visa delays. The 23-year-old Russian, claimed off waivers Sunday from the Canadiens, could be on the ice Saturday . ... The Golden Knights have gone seven games without allowing a power-play goal. Since Nov. 23, they have denied 20 consecutive power-play opportunities by opponents, including four against the Blackhawks on Thursday.
