Fitzwater paves way in South River win with five 3-pointers

Julia Fitzwater hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and seven rebounds in the South River girls basketball team’s 59-17 victory over Maryvale Prep at the Public-Private Challenge Saturday morning at McDonogh School.

Ashlynn Burrows (four steals, three rebounds) and Tamaya Green each finished with eight points, Harley Herndon had seven rebounds and four steals and Kathleen Sullivan had seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for South River (10-1).

Boys basketball OLD MILL 58, NORTHEAST 50:

Daevone Johnson led all scorers with 18 points to lead the Patriots on Friday. Avion Robinson added 15 points and Tyrek Almaralis added 10 points for Old Mill (8-3). Brandon LeBarron had 16 points to lead the Eagles (5-6).

Jay Carter and Jake Koverman each scored 14 points for the Bulldogs (8-4) in Friday’s win. Eric Sondberg produced 18 points and Kobe Denton added 10 points for the Seahawks (4-6).

SOUTHERN 47, SOUTH RIVER 43:

Greg Bynum scored a career-high 18 points, Tyson Brooks followed with 11 points and Deon Hebron added 10 in Friday’s loss to the Panthers.

ANNAPOLIS 74, ARUNDEL 58: INDIAN CREEK 63, CHAPELGATE CHRISTIAN 37:

Khalil Williams scored 24 points and added 10 rebounds and three steals and Khiyon Washington added 23 points, five steals and six assists for the Eagles (8-7) on Friday.

RJ Forbes lead the Eagles with 23 points and Aaron Celcis added 14 points in Friday’s loss to the Gaels. AACS falls to 10-4 overall, 5-4 in the MIAA A Conference.

MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 79, AACS 53:

James Church had 14 points and four rebounds, Kaden Powell followed with 13 points and three rebounds and Dellon White added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Braves on Friday.

ROSEDALE BAPTIST 46, ROCKBRIDGE 45:

David Lytikainen had 22 points and five steals, but the Panthers scored with one second remaining to defeat the Scots.

Tobi Ajuwon added 12 points and nine rebounds for Rockbridge (3-4).

Wrestling

Brady Pruett (126), Drew Baublitz (120), Paul Truntich (126), Joe Fisk (132) and Dustin Radford (195) all recorded pins for the Cavaliers in Friday’s win over the Eagles. Garrett Fisk won by a major decision at 152 for Archbishop Spalding.

Jeisel Delerme-Sanchez (106) and Jayden Mason (145) won by fall for Northeast.
