Boys

Alonzo Wilkes, Jr., Chesapeake, basketball

Wilkes led the Cougars to a 2-1 week with three double-doubles and averaged 17 points, 11½ rebounds and nearly four blocks. He began his week with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Chesapeake Science Point, then added 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks the next night in a win over Severna Park. “Alonzo played this past week with the aggressive­ness and determinat­ion the coaching staff and his teammates have been waiting for,” coach Shawn Rebstock said. “He was our leader at both ends of the court, and we need that to continue as we head into the second half of the season.”

Honorable Mention Daevone Johnson, Sr., Old Mill, basketball

Johnson was the leading scorer for the Patriots in last week's wins over Annapolis and Northeast. His 28 points and nine rebounds helped the Patriots knock off the Panthers on Tuesday.

Girls

Alicia Ennals, Jr., North County, basketball

In just two games, Ennals grabbed 33 rebounds, including 21 in an overtime loss to South River. She also scored 10 points against the Seahawks and added 15 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over Glen Burnie.

“Alicia always works very hard and she makes us a better team.” coach Dan Mangum said. “Alicia is one of our captains and leads by example.”

Honorable Mention Lauren Poole, Sr., South River, swimming

Poole won a pair of individual events and was part of a winning relay team for the Seahawks at Friday's county meet.
