South River wrestlers go 8-0 at La Plata Duals

Moni Dove (113) went 8-0, while Nolan Lunsford (120/126), Isaac Barber (132/138), Joab Patino (145), Lonnell Owens-Pabon (170) and James Purnell (195/220) each went 7-1 as the South River wrestling team finished 8-0 at the La Plata Duals on Friday and Saturday.

Racheil Coney (285) posted a 6-1 record, Michael Byers (152) went 5-1 and Kevin Lippincott (220) finished 5-2 as the Seahawks defeated La Plata, 58-15, King George, (Va.), 64-15, Severna Park, 71-6, Huntingtow­n, 63-13, North Hagerstown, 54-20, North Point, 60-15, Damascus, 37-30 and Lackey, 66-4.

Boys Basketball

Southern 47, Calvert 34: Russell Dandridge netted 22 points and 17 rebounds and Khiyon Washington added 15 points as the Bulldogs (3-1) defeated the Cavaliers on Saturday in a Washington Wizards Showcase game.

Northeast 81, Meade 53: Trent McNeill led all scorers with 24 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals to lead the Eagles past the Mustangs Friday night. Travis Smoot scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Darrell Sheppard had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Jaylin Albury added 12 points and 12 assists for Northeast.

TJ Speight scored 10 points, while Josh Bishop, Omar Beattie and Delonte Johnson each chipped in with six points for the Mustangs. Old Mill 84, Chesapeake 75: Reed Rebstock led all scorers with 29 points, including five 3-pointers, and added five rebounds, but the Cougars fell to the Patriots Friday night. Alonzo Wilkes finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Ethan Cann had 13 points for Chesapeake. North County 65, Glen Burnie 50: Jaylin Payne netted 16 points, nine rebounds and six steals and Rodney Wilkerson tallied 15 points, five assists and five steals to lead the Knights over the Gophers Friday night.

O’Meech Wilson scored 14 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for North County. Annapolis 71, Southern 69: Craig Pratt deposited 22 points and Meiko Ross contribute­d 14 points as the Panthers edged the Bulldogs Friday night. Kemari Taylor scored 11 points for Annapolis.

Larry Bulluck netted 20 points, Khiyon Washington followwed with 19 points, Jay

Carter chipped in with 13 points and Russell Dandridge provided 12 points for Southern.

Girls Basketball

Meade 62, Northeast 30: Symphonie Bryant-Brown and Briel Owens each had 12 points and Ayanni Brown added nine points in the Mustangs victory over the Eagles Friday night.

Allyson Wills scored 20 points for Northeast.

Glen Burnie 52, North County 43: Aireona Holland tallied 15 points, six rebounds, seven steals and three assists and Na’vaye Quarles added 12 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists in the Knights’ loss to the Gophers Friday night. Gerstell Academy 47, St. Mary’s 46: Ashley Roy scored 19 points, including five 3pointers, but it wasn’t enough as the Saints fell on a last second shot on Friday.

Swimming

Broadneck boys, Severna Park girls sweep

tri-meet: Trippe Bauman (100 butterfly) was the lone individual winner, but the Bruins boys won all three relays as they took down the powers of the county, defeating South River, 54-40, Severna Park, 56-38, and Annapolis, 75-19.

Luke Schwenk, Gabe Clark, Hunter Fulton and Jake Smith teamed to win the 200 Medley Relay, while the combo of Nate Howard, Jack Arnold, Clark and Sam Bertinatti won the 200 freestyle relay. Fulton, Bertinatti, Schwenk and Smith teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay for Broadneck.

Connor Page (200 freestyle), Matthew Speciale (100 backstroke) and Chase Neuman (100 breast stroke) were all winners as South River beat Annapolis, 68-25, Severna Park defeated Annapolis, 73-21 and Severna Park and South River tied 47-47.

Eoin Lenham won both the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle for Annapolis and Morgan Sloan (50 freestyle) and Nathan Damanti (500 freestyle) were winners for Severna Park.

Nicole DeMaio (200 freestyle), Krista Gretz (50 freestyle) Camryn Raines (100 butterfly) and Shannon Sullivan (100 freestyle) were all individual winners as the Falcons girls were better than South River, 65-29, Annapolis, 77-17, and Broadneck, 67-27.

The 200 medley relay team, consisting of

Lauren Turk, Raines, Madeline Goger and Gretz, won the event and the team of Mackenzie Burfoot, Sophie Patz, Raines and Gretz won the 200 freestyle relay.

Samara Hatley won both the 200 IM and the 100 breast stroke and Faith Karr touched first in the 500 freestyle as the Seahawks beat Broadneck, 48-46, and Annapolis, 62-32.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Karr, Emma Corey, Hatley and Darby Doyle finished the meet with a victory.

Kim Horn won the 100 backstroke as Broadneck defeated Annapolis, 58-36. North County boys, Old Mill girls sweep

tri-meet: Trent Lewis (200 individual medley) and Ethan Bolinger (500 freestyle each won an individual event and the Knights boys won all three relays as they swept Southern, 76-14, Old Mill, 51-43, and Chesapeake, 68-26.

Bolinger, Lewis, Dominic Bonanno and Nigel Webster won the medley relay, Gabe Doersam, Lewis, Nigel Webster and Noah Webster combined to win the 200 freestyle relay and Bolinger, Bonanno, Doersam and Noah Webster teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay for North County.

Will D’antoni (50 freestyle), Zachariah Turner (100 freestyle) and Santiago David (100 breast stroke) each won their event for Old Mill, which defeated Southern, 77-10, and Chesapeake, 69-24.

Aiden Linehan of Chesapeake was the only multple individual event winner, touching first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, as the Cougars beat Southern, 50-28. Brady Hitchcock won the 200 freestyle for the Bulldogs.

Breyanna Mahoney-Durr took first in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Ava Allen (200 IM), Abby Furlow (50 freestyle) and Mackenzie Parker (100 freestyle) also won individual events, as the Patriots girls squad topped Southern, 76-18, North County, 65-36 and Chesapeake, 71-28.

Mahoney-Durr, Parker, Allen and Furlow made up the winning medley relay team and Furlow, Mahoney-Durr, Sarah Turner and Allen combined to win the 400 freestyle relay for Old Mill.

Behind Natalie Lewis’ win in the 500 freestyle and the combined effort of Tadem Augustin, Cara Springer, Lewis and Emily Hood, who won the 200 freestyle relay, the Knights defeated Southern, 67-23, and Chesapeake, 54-36. Natasha Paciello won the 100 butterfly and 100 breast stroke to guide the Cougars over Southern, 54-29.
