During the college tennis practice season this fall, several local players are enjoying success in their senior year.

Austin Yannone is competing at Quinnipiac and won both of his singles and doubles matches at the Connecticut State Championships in November. The Severna Park High graduate is an excellent studentathlete studying finance.

Last year, Yannone had a winning record in singles and was recognized on the MAAC All-Academic Team and as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Jack Brandenburg is studying economics and earned an overall winning record (7-4) in singles and doubles at St. Mary’s College of Maryland this fall. The Annapolis High product has teamed up with Broadneck alum Ethan Garren in doubles.

Garren, who was the team captain at Broadneck, is studying political science and he too earned a winning record this fall, going 5-3 in singles and doubles.

Lauren Appel is studying political science and Spanish at Randolph-Macon College. She is a consistent doubles player and at the OITA Regionals in Fredericksburg in September, she won three matches to advance to the finals.

Other seniors we’re watching this year are Brad Carson (Severna Park) at Lynchburg

College and Patrick MacLean (Mount St. Joseph) at Salisbury University.
