Scholarship fund founded for late pilot Schultz
The first Charity Golf Tournament in Memory of our Annapolis native son, Lt. Col Eric “Doc” Schultz, USAF — held on Oct. 3 at Queenstown Harbor River and Lakes Courses — was a huge success. Two hundred twenty-one golfers and 50 guests from Maryland and around the country gathered to raise their cups or cans in honor of a hero gone too soon. Eric was a decorated Air Force combat and test pilot who died in the line of duty in Nevada on Sept. 5, 2017.
It was a perfect day at a beautiful venue, with early riser breakfast provided by Food Lion in Centreville; delicious box lunches from Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches in downtown Annapolis delivered on the course by volunteers; and Mission BBQ serving up beef brisket, pulled pork and chicken, mac & cheese, green beans, and cornbread before the awards banquet & silent auction presentations.
The winning teams playing on the Lakes Course were Andrew Generazio, Joe Doa, Paul Corr, and Kolyn Kirby in 1st place; Guy Cherry, Greg Gruber, and Tom Kirby in 2nd place; and Josh Shepherd, Matt Tinder, Nick Gills, and Jason Lewis in 3rd place.
The winners on the River Course were Jeremy Kavalsky, Steve Feldstein, Joe Bross, and John Isaac in 1st place; Matt Mathias, Tom Mathias, Gary Cox, and Dan Doucet in 2nd place; and Sherman Moon, Sol James, Chris Fountain, and Josh Hendricks in 3rd place.
Sheehy Lexus of Annapolis and Johnson Alfa Romeo of Annapolis provided the vehicles for plenty of excitement at the Hole In One Contests on the River and Lakes Courses.
Through the unselfish support of our 31 Sponsors and 70 Supporters, our golfers, non-golfer guests, and our 19 volunteers we were able to raise $55,000.
Success of this magnitude would not have been possible without their support of our men and women in uniform and their families. All funds have been directed to the Scholarship Fund of the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity, for scholarships for children of deceased aviators from all branches of service. The Pilots Association Board has now established a permanent Scholarship in our son’s name and memory to be awarded each year, an honor for our family and Eric in whose life education was so important.
Next year, we will again gather at
Queenstown Harbor on Oct., 3, 2020, as we continue to raise funds for the Scholarship Fund. Details of the event will be provided in the spring on our website, birdeasepro.com/Schultz.
