5th District needs a representative in Congress who will address critical needs
I am Doug Sayers, and I have entered the 5th District congressional 2020 race as a Republican. With the 5th District spanning five counties, the district seat will be centralized in Charles County.
As an everyday commuter and a veteran, it only takes common sense to understand the 5th District’s critical issues. I will work on issues hampering the district, so you can live your best life. I have moderate beliefs and strongly believe in our constitution. I will be right of center on fiscal responsibility, moderate on social topics, and listen to points of view with an open mind.
As a resident who drives Routes 210, 5, 4, and 301, I will get federal transportation funds. These funds will be transferred to the state for the Branch Avenue to White Plains railway study, so Maryland can completely execute this study and then work to procure federal construction funds.
Additionally, in my first term, I will coordinate for the Veteran Affairs to build a new Veteran Affairs Center in Charles County to serve Prince George’s, Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties for our disable veterans. I will protect our Department of Defense bases and ensure resources are in place to support their mission. By protecting the DOD bases in the district, we maintain jobs and our district’s national significance.
My first term will involve collaborating the critical needs of the 5th District, and we the people will send a loud clear message.
Additionally, these two construction projects will provide jobs to union employees, and I will work to get 5% more federal education funding for county school budgets. As the region is growing and due to the increase in non-English speaking students, our counties’ budgets need more federal educational funding for our Title 1 schools.
I am seeking to serve only three terms as Maryland’s 5th District representative to Congress, and after securing federal funds for transportation, Veteran Affairs and our DOD bases, the next individual needs to step up to serve and sustain our efforts that improve our lives in the 5th District.
By voting for me, you are sending a message to the halls of Congress and the executive branch that the 5th District needs the required federal funds now. It is important to have the 5th District elected official align with the executive branch to effectively coordinate federal resources.
The U.S. economy and gross domestic product are at historical high records with historically low unemployment, and my belief is that President Donald Trump will be reelected in 2020. Some residents may be happy, and some may be unhappy; either way, the 5th District needs federal funds.
I promise to openly communicate, to build partnerships and rapport, and to critically think and problem solve, with the end goal of improving the lives of residents so you can live your best life. I ask for your vote in 2020; visit SayersForCongress.com to donate and volunteer.
