William Howard Schenck

William Howard “Bill” Schenck, 77, a 39-year resident of Lothian, MD, passed away on April 28, 2020 due to the COVID-19 virus. Born on April 5, 1943 to the late Sophie and William C. Schenck, Bill graduated from Annapolis High School in 1961 and attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA. He completed a 26-year career with the Anne Arundel County Police Department in 1992, serving his last few years as a District Detective and retiring as a Corporal. He then went to work as a bailiff at the District Court of Maryland in Annapolis. Bill was an award-winning decorative waterfowl carver, a pastime he enjoyed over many years. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and archer. Bill especially loved taking hunting trips to Montana, racing his homing pigeons, scuba diving, birding, gardening and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his granddaugh­ter, Christina Lynn Schenck, and sons-in-law, Rob Allen and Kirk Dodson. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Marjorie Montgomery Schenck; three sons, Michael (Rebecca) Schenck of Edgewater, MD, Christophe­r (Theresa) Schenck of Severna Park, MD and W. Scott (Jodi) Lyons of Gettysburg, PA; three daughters, Stacy Allen of North Beach, MD, Catherine Dodson of East Berlin, PA, Kelly (Greg) Jones of Lothian, MD; three grandsons, John Allen, Devin Jones and Kevin Dodson; five granddaugh­ters, Catherine Allen, Lacey Schenck, Leah Schenck, Tiffany Strawbridg­e and Ashley Jones; and a sister, Betty Marie Best of St. Michaels, MD. Due to current social-distancing limitation­s, no services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annapolis SPCA, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21043 or Bay Arts Center, 813 Cedar Avenue, North Beach, MD 20714.
