Washington releases QBHaskins

-

TheWashington football team released Dwayne Haskins on Monday before his second NFL season was even complete.

Haskins, the 15thoverall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, immediately becomes one of the biggest draft busts inNFL history.

“This afternoon I met with Dwayne to inform him that we would be releasing him,” coachRon Rivera said in a statement shared by the team on Monday. “I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways. We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two season sand wish him well moving forward.”

TheQB’s immaturity led Rivera tobench himfiveweeks intoHaskins’ second season in favor of Kyle Allen. Haskins wasn’t putting in the work off the field. This was a continuation of concerns coming off his rookie year, which included Haskins missing the final snap of a Nov. 2019 game because hewas taking a selfie with a fan.

“I take full responsibility for not meeting the standards of a NFL B & will become a betterman& player because of this experience,” Haskins wrote in a tweet.

Haskins resumed playing in Week 14 after both Allen and Alex Smith got hurt, but after aWeek 15 win in Seattle, photos surfaced of Haskins partying maskless in what appeared to be a strip club. Haskins insisted it was a private party, but he was disciplined internally and had his captain cy stripped from him. Washington somehow still started him at QB in Sunday’s loss to Carolina, but Haskins played terribly and was benched in the second half for fourth st ringer Taylor He inicke.

The Ravens were fined $ 250,000 by the NFL for violating COVID- 19 protocols, a person with direct knowledge of the punishment told The Associated Press on Monday. The team was not docked draft picks for the violations, which led to a corona virus outbreak and there scheduling of the Ravens’ Thanksgiving night game against the Steelers.
