Anne Arundel again sees over 400 daily cases

Anne Arundel County added an additional 429 coronaviru­s cases, the second straight day of more than 400 new infections. Another five residents have died to COVID- 19, the disease caused by the coronaviru­s.

The total number of infections in the county reached 27,345 with 383 dead to the virus. Another 14 are believed to have died from the virus but a lab test was not administer­ed.

Maryland added 3,758 additional coronaviru­s cases statewide Saturday. Another 28 Marylander­s also died from the virus. This brings the state’s total cases to 303,364 and 6,075 confirmed deaths.

Anne Arundel’s 7- day average positivity rate is10.5%, higher than the state’s 9.1%. The 7- day average case rate per100,000 people is about 52.

Hospitals are nearing capacity, with about 82% of acute beds and86% of Intensive Care Unit beds occupied, according to a sevenday moving average report from the Anne Arundel County Department of Health. These numbers reflect both beds at Anne Arundel Medical Center and Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

The increased cases come as Maryland continues to roll out vaccine allotments from the federal government. As of Saturday, the Maryland Department of Health had administer­ed nearly 124,000 first doses of corona virus vaccines, and nearly 5,000 second doses to residents who are in the 1A group. This includes health care workers, first responders and residents of long- term care facilities. Officials have said they could move to group 1B by the end of the month.
