Steuart Pittman

-

County Executive Steuart Pittman has had to make some very tough decisions regarding the pandemic — and no decision would make everyone happy.

But he seems to have tried to do what is best to get most of the county’s residents through this alive and as financially whole as possible. And then we have folks like former Gov. Bob Ehrlich and former Del.. HerbMcMillan who parachute in and rant about keeping restaurants open.

Make no mistake, I amsaddened by what this pandemic is doing to our local businessesandrestaurantsandthoseemployees who depend on these jobs and professions.

My wife and I am are diehard restaurantgoers and I can’t wait to get back out there to our favorite places.

I can still get my beloved chicken gyro to- go fromChris Charcoal Pit, but Iwant to sit inside, relax and enjoymy meal with the friendly staff. I miss Carpaccio’s, which will cook anything you want, any way you want it, and do itwell… whether it’s on the menu or not.

And it’s been almost a year since my last cowboy rib steak at Lewnes — that loss brings tears tomy eyes. And I still dream of getting the Spotted Pig Pizza and some red zinfadel at Vin 909.

But I’m not willing to die for any of these great meals that I miss so much.

The sooner we can flatten and bend the curve the sooner life can start getting back tosometype of normal. Theanticsofpeople like Ehrlich and McMillan promoting policies that health officials strongly warn against, will only serve to extend this pandemic and keep many people, like myself from going to our favorite restaurants.

Iwant these restaurants to survive, and I want to go to them. But I don’t want to risk my life for a pizza … although the Spotted Pig does makeme think twice about it. PETER J. MARX

Annapolis

Police response

Howmany times havewe seen it? We are driving on Route 50 or Interstate 97 South to Annapolis and the little Honda with the slouched driverweaving inandout of traffic at 85- 90mph?… literally a hundred times in the last 10 years. And, how many times do we say, “Where are the Police!”

It happenedTuesday night on the Severn River Bridge. TheHonda casting all caution to the wind, weaving in and out of traffic, jeopardizing all of us on the bridge. And I started to say, “Where are…”, and in the blinkof aneye, out ofnowherecamea white SUVwith blazing blue and red lights.

I said to myself, there is a God, and God bless the police.
