Electric trike an inspired gift for Millersville family
Kim Heinrich and her 12- year- old daughter Allison, of Millersville, are extremely grateful this season.
Allison, who lives with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder that attacks the central nervous system and weakens all the muscles in the body, wanted a bicycle like all of her school- aged friends. Her disorder often leaves children unable to walk or comfortably move around.
Kim drove three hours from Maryland to meet with Jason Kraft, CEO of Electric Bike Technologies in Croydon, Pennsylvania, a Philadelphia suburb, to find a non- medical mobility device for Allison to go on bike rides with her friends and family, and maintain some independence.
Kraft’s company produces electric bicycles, electric tricycles, and electric bike conversion kits under four separate brands; Electric Bike, E- Bike Kit, Liberty
Trike, and Electric Trike. He let Allison try a bike in the shop and immediately gleamed with pride as she rode around the store with the brightest smile.
Inspired, Kraft immediately gifted Allison with the bike and, decided to help other children battling SMA with a donation of 20 trikes to kids living with debilitating disease and hopes to grow that number.
Kraft said that his original target demographic had mainly been senior citizens and people with mobility issues. Now, thanks to Kim and Allison and the other families who have received complimentary electric trikes, he better understands that he’s doing much more than building and selling electric bikes — he’s improving the quality of life for people living with disabilities.
