Basketball and wrestling teams are victorious

- By Tim Schwartz

Navy men’s basketball stayed perfect in Patriot League play and defeated host Lehigh 69- 61on Saturday afternoon.

John Carter Jr. led the Mids ( 6- 1 overall, 3- 0) with 18 points and made all four of the team’s 3- pointers on seven attempts. Cam Davis, Richard Njoku and Jaylen Walker each had 10 points to pace Navy, which improved to 3- 0 in Patriot League play for the third time in program history and first time since 1997- 98.

“It is a team sport and we like to be able to share the basketball,” said Mids coach Ed DeChellis. “That’s who we are. We are a very unselfish team. We don’t care who scores.

“We were able to make some plays and pass the ball. We are not the kind of team who can break guys down one- on- one and just go and score. We have to use each other to get open to run our offense successfully.”

The win was the 120th for DeChellis as Navy head coach, which moved him to fourth place in school history.

The Mids took a 34- 27 lead into halftime, but the Mountain Hawks ( 1- 2,1- 2) scored the first eight points of the second half to take the lead. But Navy took the lead for good after Greg Summers, who had six points and eight rebounds, made one of two free throws.

Nic Lynch had 17 points and Jalin Sinclair added14 for Lehigh, which shot 56.3% from the field but made just 4 of 9 free- throw attempts.

The teams will play against Sunday at 3 p.m. at Alumni Hall in Annapolis.
