County adds 162 virus cases, three deaths since Friday
Anne Arundel County confirmed 162 new coronavirus cases and three new deaths since Friday, according to data from the Maryland Department of Health. The state confirmed 434 new coronavirus cases and 8 deaths.
Numbers released Sunday morning show the county has reached 43,118 confirmed cases and 590 deaths since March 2020. Another 14 county residents may have died from the virus, but a lab test was never performed. Maryland now has 453,125 confirmed cases and 8,660 deaths.
Anne Arundel’s seven-day average rate of positive cases is 4.33%, higher than the state’s 3.31%. The seven-day average case rate per 100,000 people is about 11.27 for the county. The case rate is a metric of infections per 100,000 people, averaged over seven days, to judge how quickly and widely the virus is spreading in the county.
Statewide, 822 people are currently hospitalized with 216 patients in the ICU and 606 patients in acute care.
As of Sunday, the Maryland Department of Health had administered 2,864,139 first doses of coronavirus vaccines and 2,096,190 second doses. There have also been 199,987 residents who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The state is currently in Phase 3 of its vaccination plan.
All providers are vaccinating everyone ages 16 and older. To get an appointment through the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, go to aacounty.org/covidvax on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at noon. 12 p.m.
The mass vaccination site at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis is accepting appointments. A limited number of walk-ups will be accepted from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday. People are encouraged to get an appointment to ensure a vaccine will be available. To schedule an appointment, go to onestop.md.gov/preregistration.
Anne Arundel County residents can call 410-222-0225 or 410-222-0047 to schedule a free ride to a vaccination appointment in the county or at the Navy stadium mass vaccination site. Operators will answer from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
