Man shot dead in apartment building

Police investigat­e, ask residents to avoid area

Anne Arundel County police are investigat­ing the killing of a man who was shot inside an apartment building in Glen Burnie on Wednesday.

Officers responded to several reports of shots fired around 12:40 p.m. at the 400 block of Hideaway Loop, police said. Officers discovered a man who was suffering from gunshot injuries. Police said he was transporte­d to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said they are notifying the man’s next of kin and did not release his age.

The investigat­ion is active, and police are continuing to ask residents to avoid the area.

With two days left in 2021, Wednesday’s homicide marks the 19th in Anne Arundel County this year. Ten homicides have been closed by arrest. Anne Arundel County recorded 19 homicides in 2020.

A firearm was used in 12 of the homicides in 2021, including two fatal police shootings. There have been 46 shootings in the county this year, and 34 people have been injured in a shooting. Sixty nonfatal shootings were recorded in the county in 2020, and 37 people were injured. In 2019, 19 people were injured in 27 nonfatal shootings.

In Annapolis, five people have died by homicide in 2021.

An Anne Arundel County police corporal shot and killed Digno Ramon Yorro Jr. after the 32-year-old fatally stabbed his mother, Valentina Yorro, in her Glen Burnie home in the 1400 block of Braden Loop Nov. 28.

Police are still searching for a suspect who shot and killed 26-yearold Gene Fayga Martin on Oct. 21. Officers were called to the area of Beach Road and McGowan Avenue in Glen Burnie and located Martin, who died at the scene from his injuries. Police believe the shooting was targeted and have not arrested or identified a suspect.

Harrison Lawrence Hertel, 23, killed Shelby Lyn Chialastri, 25, on Aug. 12 by shooting her inside a car near her home in Harwood before he fatally shot himself in Annapolis. Police believe the two were in a relationsh­ip that recently ended. Latisha Monica Adams, of Laurel, was riding in the front passenger seat of a car on May 19 when Ronald William Smith, sitting behind her, accidental­ly shot and killed her while handling a handgun, he told police. Adams was about five months pregnant.

Anne Arundel County police arrested a 13-year-old boy from Baltimore in July for the fatal shooting of Christophe­r Lee Lombr, 29, on May 12 in Brooklyn Park. Lombr was walking Townsend Avenue near the Baltimore City line when he was approached and shot. The 13-yearold, who did not know Lombr, ran away and was arrested two months later. Police believe the juvenile took the gun from his family home.

Lombr’s homicide occurred two days after there was a quadruple shooting in Maryland City. Husband and wife Ryan and Ivania Lee, both 31, were shot and killed in her home on May 10. Their son was shot and hospitaliz­ed. The three were shot before the suspect, Shawn Maurice Price, 57, killed himself, police said.

Police arrested Cortez Artis and charged him with killing Robert Turner III, 35, inside a house in Glen Burnie on March 1. Artis was located nearby the house and carrying two 9 mm handguns. Artis confessed to the shooting during an interview, police said. Anne Arundel County police have not identified a suspect in the Jan. 8 killing of Brandon Anthony Davis, 34, who was shot multiple times in Severn. Davis’ death was the first homicide of the year.
