David Hannigan
David Thomas Hannigan, 26, left us peacefully on January 23, while surrounded by family, after a 2-year battle with cancer. Although we miss him tremendously, we rejoice that he is now celebrating in his heavenly home.
Throughout his illness, David was an inspiring example of fighting the good fight and finishing the race. He never once complained about his pain and misery from the cancer and treatment. He often reminded us that “God knows what He is doing. We can trust Him.”
David was a member of the new College Creek Church in Annapolis. He was a quiet servant, always willing to help and continually looking for people in need.
A long-time employee of Graul’s Market in Annapolis, David enjoyed his job and worked there until the last week of his life. The Hannigans appreciate Graul’s for their kindness and encouragement to David.
David was a graduate of Anne Arundel Community College, usually on the dean’s list. He was enrolled at UMBC as a Business Technology Administration major, attending classes online throughout his treatment (but never sharing his circumstances with his professors.)
David loved to bake. We will miss his breadsticks, homemade pizzas, and legendary cookies. He frequently delivered freshly baked cookies to people he thought might need encouragement. Even last week, from the hospital, he directed our family where to deliver his cookies.
David also loved to kayak, traveling many miles on the South River. He enjoyed board games and bonfires with friends, mini golf with his nephews, camping, hiking, and building enormous Lego sculptures. He was a fan of NASCAR, all things Star Wars, the Steelers, and Chick-Fil-A. He loved cats, especially his own pet, Toby.
David wore a wristband with the phrase “Laugh Daily,” which was his personal motto
(Proverbs 17:22.) We miss his punny sense of humor very much.
David leaves behind his grieving family: parents Mike & Linda Hannigan; siblings Elizabeth & Chris Kramer, Rebecca & Taras Pawluczkowycz, Aaron & Carrie Hannigan; and three adoring nephews.
The Hannigans want to thank David’s many, many close friends who faithfully supported him while paddling in kayaks or around board games and bonfires.
We are also especially grateful to Dr. Meyer and the nurses at Johns Hopkins Hospital whose care gave us an additional year of memories with David.
A memorial service will be held at Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, 710 Ridgely Ave, on Saturday, February 5, at 2 PM. At David’s request, in lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Camp Hemlock Wilderness Brigade Camp in West Virginia.
