Harold “Buzz” Joseph Kumer, Jr., age 81, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, after a long illness at the Pennsylvan­ia Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home in Erie. Born on April 20, 1940, he was the eldest of Harold Joseph Kumer, Sr. and Ellen Jacobi Kumer’s six children. Harold is survived by his daughter Anne (Eric) Franos and son Joseph Kumer; his grandchild­ren Nicholas Franos, Matthew Franos, and Zachary Franos; his brother Richard Kumer and sisters Irene Kumer and Janet (David) Ewing; his nephew Isaac Kumer and nieces Tracy Jennings, Lisa Kumer, and Amelia Kumer. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Michael Kumer and Donald Kumer. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and received an Economics degree from the University of Maryland. While attending college, he was employed at the US Naval Engineerin­g Station and Testing Laboratory in Annapolis. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1959-1963.

After 26 years as a Management Analyst, he retired from the US Department of Housing and Urban Developmen­t and Federal Housing Administra­tion.

In retirement, he was an active member of the Anne Arundel County Growth Action Network and served as Chair of the Special Advisory Committee for the county General Developmen­t Plan. He also volunteere­d as a tutor at the county detention center and was a part of Anne Arundel County’s literary council. Harold’s devotion to family, quick-wit, charm, and willingnes­s to share his love of history, music, and dancing will be missed.

His family appreciate­s the excellent care he received from his daughter Anne and the Veterans Homes in Erie and Pittsburgh. He will be buried at the Crownsvill­e Veterans Cemetery in Maryland.
