Kenneth E. Lyons

Kenneth Ervin Lyons was born at home on Dec. 9, 1939 to Alta Mae Lyons (Lane) and Jewell Lyons in Willhoit, Missouri. In 1944, his family moved to Kansas City where he attended Mark Twain Elementary School and Wyandotte County High School. He graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas in 1962. Following graduation, he enlisted and served from December of 1962 to March of 1967 in the U.S Air Force reaching the grade of Captain.

After discharge, he moved with his wife, Barbara Lynne (Scanlan), to Annapolis, MD and began a 35-year career with ARINC (Aeronautic­al Radio Inc.) “chasing government contract work” to become Vice-President, Advanced Space Division. In 1969, he became the proud Father of Christine Elizabeth Lyons. He and Barbara divorced and in 1999 he married Sharon E. Serio.

Ken resided in Annapolis. He was an avid runner and a longtime member of the Annapolis Striders participat­ing in many races and marathons around the U.S. and other countries including the Pikes Peak Ascent. For several years, he served as race director for the Striders Father’s Day Race.

Ken also enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire and in National Parks and Forests throughout the U.S. On one occasion he and his friends summited Mt. Whitney in one day!

In retirement, Ken studied German language and culture at the Goethe Institute in Washington D.C., and taught math at Anne Arundel Community College and Broadneck High School. He was an avid golfer making a holein-one on Hole 8 at Lakes at Queenstown Golf Course. And he was a most enthusiast­ic Kansas Jayhawks Basketball fan.

Along with participat­ing in his interests and activities, Ken always found time to spend with his family conducting Camp Pop for many summers for Grandsons Kevin and Kyle Corcoran.

Ken is survived by his wife Sharon Serio, his daughter Christine Corcoran and son-in-law Brian, and Grandsons Kevin and Kyle Corcoran; step-daughter Elise Hammond, stepgrandc­hildren Zachary Morris (Kaitlyn), Justin Morris, Marissa Strohl (Dalyton); and by his dear sister Sharon Griswold (Greg) and many nieces and nephews and their families in Missouri. He was predecease­d by his parents, step-son Richard C. Hammond (Jessica), and Cousin Patsy Davis.

A visitation for Ken will be held on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401. A funeral service will occur Monday, Aug. 22,2022 at 10:00 am in funeral home chapel. Interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsvill­e, MD 21032.
