Robert A. Clemens
Robert A. Clemens, age 92, passed away on November 8, 2022 at his home in Annapolis surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Barbara, and their three children, Michael, Carla and Neil Clemens, and grandson Matthew.
He was born in Annapolis, MD to his parents Lee F. Clemens and Catherine Clemens. He graduated from Annapolis High School where he was a star basketball player on the team. After high school Bob and three classmates left for Norfolk, VA aboard the USS Palau for a six-week training course in the Mediterranean visiting Italy, Gibraltar, and other islands. He earned his Bachelor Degree from the University of Maryland and later received a Masters Degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He was later commissioned in the US Air Force as an Officer and began serving on active duty.
After that Bob was employed with the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company for many years as a supervisor of personnel and also serving in the Maryland Air National Guard for 20 years. Later he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force.
A true son of Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay having spent a happy childhood and a lifetime of sailing on all the local waters. He was a natural born sailor and racer, racing in regattas every summer up and down the bay and collecting many sailing trophies. He was a champion sailor and crewed several times in ocean races to Bermuda.
Early on, Bob was a member of the Civitan Club in Annapolis and the Annapolis Yacht Club, and also served as President several times of Winchester on the Severn Community. After retiring Bob was very active in the Special Events Race Committee for the Annapolis Yacht Club and recently received his 70-year pin as a lifetime member. He also enjoyed being a Tour Guide in Annapolis for Historic Annapolis and the Visitors Center. He played golf occasionally with friends, and his passion for sailing continued along with frequent trips to Florida and elsewhere.
Bob was the friendliest, most dependable and helpful man always ready with a smile and he is loved by so many. His love and care of his family were always his primary concern. He will always be remembered as a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
Friends and family may call at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Wednesday November 16, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, November 17, 10:30 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401.
