Strong shooting lifts Chesapeake

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action from Tuesday.

Girls basketball

Chesapeake 64, Annapolis 56: The visiting Cougars opened with an 18-7 run and beat the Panthers thanks in part to a 19-for-22 effort from the foul line. Madison Kelly and Natalie Forman each scored 17 points with Forman adding 11 rebounds. Kiamyani Scott (20 points) and McKenzie Fuller (14 points) led Annapolis.

Glen Burnie 53, Severna Park 30: Amourie Porter had a strong all-around game with 19 points, five rebounds and six steals to lead the Gophers. Aichatta Soumaoro notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Old Mill 57, Northeast 26: Caitlyn Cornwell scored 14 points and snatched five steals to lead the Eagles in the loss.

South River 43, North County 21: South River was led by Kiera West (11 points), Ryleigh Adams (9 points) and Samie Clakre (9 points).

Southern 52, Arundel 30: Ava Wooster had a huge night, exploding for 32 points and hauling down 22 rebounds. Alissa Jacks added 10 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs. Jordan Glover scored 11 points and Jolie Hamilton chipped in eight points for Arundel.

Crofton 37, Broadneck 34: The visiting Cardinals outscored the Bruins, 26-13, in the second half to win. Broadneck was led by Mackenzie Wharton (11 points) and Samantha Miller (8 points).

Boys basketball

Glen Burnie 60 Severna Park 49: John Mallory led the host Gophers (6-4) with 21 points to get past the Falcons. Eric Daniels had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Severna Park’s Upton Young led all scorers with 22 points.

South River 57, North County 34: The visiting Seahawks beat the Knights. South River was led by Cash Herndon (20 points), Trashaun Timmons (17 points) and Blake Burrows (13 points).

Arundel 67, Southern 56: Ryan Alston

scored 21 points to lead the visiting Wildcats past the Bulldogs. Southern was led by Brian Griffin with 21 points and Sabin Cordua with 13 points.

Chesapeake 70, Annapolis 48: Chesapeake earned just its second win in school history over the Panthers. The Cougars were led in scoring by junior Mitch Collier with 17 points.

Broadneck 70, Crofton 50: Amare Jefferies had 24 points and Jordan Brown had 22 points to lead the visiting Bruins past the Cardinals. Brandon Younger had 14 points for Crofton.

Meade 79, Chesapeake Science Point 60:

The visiting Mustangs opened with a 24-6 run in the first quarter and beat the Tigers. Kyree Scott (21 points), Shawn Jones (14 points) and Xavion Roberson (10 points) led Meade.

Swimming

Severn 104, St. Paul’s 57: Aliza Monaldo was victorious in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle to lead the Admirals. Caroline Stites won 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Caroline DiPaola captured the 100 freestyle and Madi Given took first in the 100 backstroke.

Wrestling

Queen Anne’s 57, Southern-AA 21: The Bulldogs got pins from Luke Ruel and Leo Flores in the loss.
