Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action from Wednesday.

Baseball

North County 1, Crofton 0: Thor Hildebrand threw a one-hitter and struck out three to lead the host Knights over the Cardinals. Kevin Santos hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Auggie Murillo for the game’s only run scored.

Chesapeake 11, Meade 1: Nate Matkins and Jayden Cieri led the offense with two doubles and three RBIs each. Blake Jarmer added two RBIs. Cam Sisson struck out eight in three innings. Josh Reil and Caiden Zacharski each threw a shutout inning in relief.

Severn 6, St. Vincent Pallotti 5: Severn held on to beat Pallotti. Sophomore Caden Blanck allowed no hits and struck out 10 in 4 innings, and Ben Campion added two no-hit innings of relief. Freshman Fletcher Warner went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored to pace the Admiral offense. Matt Fisher added two hits for Severn.

Carver A&T 23, Patterson 1: Kai Hammond threw a no-hitter and struck out 11 for the host Wildcats (9-5). Offensively, Hammond went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Carver was led by AJ Cardano who went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and Ryan Miller who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Gerstell 7, Indian Creek 3: Dylan Nee hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Falcons. Jon Delgado and Hayden Pittier also homered. Ricley Handwerger and Patrick Smith drove in runs for Indian Creek. Nick Pratt went 2-for-3.

Archbishop Curley sophomore Nathaniel Welkos just focused on winning a huge matchup against Archbishop Spalding.

Still, Welkos knew in the back of his mind he was one batter away from pitching a perfect game after retiring 20 consecutive batters.

Cavaliers first baseman Tyler Smith broke up the big no-hit bid when he lined a single to left field with two outs in the seventh inning, but that didn’t rattle Welkos, who finished the game with a strikeout and was doused with water by his teammates.

Catcher Derek Poole provided the game’s

Curley 1, Spalding 0:

only run with a 353-foot-homer to dead-center field as top-ranked Curley emerged with a 1-0 victory over No. 4 Spalding in a key Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference matchup.

Curley also beat Spalding, 3-1, in Severn on March 27. While both teams are 8-4 in the conference, the Friars own the tiebreaker and are in first place with two games remaining in the regular season.

Spalding left-hander Cody Sharman was also impressive, but took the hard-luck loss. He allowed three hits with six strikeouts and four walks over seven innings.

“Cody was awesome today,” Cavaliers coach Joe Palumbo said. “It seems like this year whenever Cody pitches for us he’s going to throw a shutout. He damn near did.

Singles players Chris Preston, Max Rossmark, Carys Preston, Lily Wells, as well as the doubles teams of Charlie Herman and Nick Patrick, Kiran Spencer and Connor Pietras, Lylah Mudd and Elizabeth Opladen, and Nora Farley and Ellie Chung were victorious.
