Anne Mavor

-

Anne Mavor, 85 of Annapolis Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family.

Anne had a prosperous career. She used her academic studies in experimental psychology professionally for government research contracts. She teamed with Bill Vaughn, and they worked together in downtown Annapolis for many years. She was proud of her work creating an operation manual for US Naval submarines. In 1987 she worked as Senior Staff Officer in Behavioral Research managing projects at the National Academy of Sciences. When retired, she volunteered at Anne Arundel Medical Center for 18 years. Her ability to see the details needed to complete professional projects also was a key feature in her personal nurturing of family, friends and patients. With her great vision she saw what was needed for those she supported and took action with great determination to meet those needs.

Anne is survived by her beloved partner of 18 years, James J. Fratino of Queenstown, MD, her son Glenn Mavor of Portland, Oregon and grandson, Thomas Cogan of Newberg, Oregon.

Anne loved Jim’s children and assumed them as her own; Dan Fratino (Suzanne), Laura DiBerardinis (Mark), and Lisa FratinoRuth (Mike). She was the surrogate grandmother to 9 grandchildren; Nick Fratino (Kayli), Elena DiBerardinis (Jake), Louis Fratino, Angela Rankin (Ben), Vincent DiBerardinis(deceased), Anthony Fratino (Jaime), Sofia Fratino, Grace DiBerardinis, Mia DiBerardinis and 5 great grandchildren-Olive Fratino, Tilghman Fratino, Julien Rankin, Everett Fratino, Frederic Rankin. They loved her very much.

Anne embraced everything life had to offer. In the early years, she and her late husband, Wayne enjoyed sailing and the gift of the Chesapeake Bay. Together and with friends they would annually sail for two weeks mooring and anchoring at many locations across the bay. With Anne’s coordination and preparation, nothing was ever forgotten on any of their adventurous excursions. In later years Anne’s favorite thing was accompanying her partner, Jim, on annual treks to Hilton Head. They cherished their time together enjoying its natural beauty.

Anne was an avid sports fan and had a particular love for football. She and Jim attended many Navy football games over the years… Anne was a die hard “Skins” (Commanders) fan. Anne and Jim cheered the grandchildren on at numerous sporting events.

Anne was a loving friend to so many and will be dearly missed.
