Evan Foster Thomas, Jr. passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2024 at Luminis Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. Evan was born in 1941 to Evan F. Thomas and Julia N. Thomas in Palo Alto, CA. He graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. He met and married Lloyd-Ellen Meade in 1964 and began a 20-year career in the United States Navy. He and Lloyd lived in Scotland, Morocco, and Japan where their sons Jeremy and Andrew were born. In 1984, Evan retired from military service and came to live in the Annapolis area working as a logistics engineer. As a lifelong and most enthusiast­ic runner, Evan joined the Annapolis Striders and became involved in running and running education. Over many years, he served energetica­lly as the President of the Club, the Director of the Annapolis 10 Mile Run, the Founder of the Club’s Beginning Running Program, and a very active Member of Road Runners Club of America. He worked tirelessly encouragin­g new runners while training for and successful­ly completing 33 Marathons around the world. He became known by many as “E.T.” His signature sound was a small, colorful, plastic whistle that he handed to all runners and friends. Evan is survived by his wife Lloyd-Ellen Thomas of Severna Park, MD, his sons Jeremy Thomas and Andrew Thomas of Glen Burnie, MD, and a brother John. N. Thomas of Palo Alto, Ca. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Hwy Severna Park, MD 21146. He will be interred at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsvill­e, MD at a date to be determined.
