Police: Man found in woods is likely victim of homicide

- By Luke Parker

The body of a Baltimore man was found in Annapolis Thursday morning, according to city police, who say his death will be ruled a homicide.

According to a news release, officers were dispatched to a wooded area in the 900 block of Spa Road for an unresponsive person. There, they found the body, which was later identified as David Winchester, 47.

Police believe Winchester was abducted Thursday “by unknown suspects” in Baltimore before ending up in Annapolis.

On social media, the Baltimore Police Department announced a possible kidnapping with Winchester’s picture. According to Baltimore Police officials, officers spoke with his mother who said two men had broken into her home, demanded money and claimed to have Winchester in their custody. They threatened to harm him if money was not handed over, police said, before fleeing “in an unspecified vehicle in an unknown direction.”

Winchester’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. Annapolis Police in their news release did not confirm Winchester’s death was a homicide, but rather said “through their investigations and evidence recovered, believe” it will be ruled so.

An Annapolis Police spokesperson was not available for comment.

Homicide detectives are investigating and ask that anyone with information contact the Baltimore Police Department by calling 410-396-2100. Anonymous tips can also be referred to Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP (56-2587) or through their website, www. metrocrimestoppers.org.
