AROUND THE HORN

White Sox: White Sox third baseman Yoán Moncada will miss at least three months — and maybe the entire season — with a severe leg injury sustained while running to first base on Tuesday night. Moncada, who has been slowed by numerous injuries in recent years, suffered a strained adductor as he tried to beat out an infield grounder in the second inning of the White Sox’s 7-5 win over the Guardians. “When I was running down the line, I felt like something broke,” Moncada said through a translator on Wednesday. The 28-year-old Moncada had been dealing with discomfort in the same leg for a few days leading into the game. After hitting a chopper to third, Moncada was sprinting at full speed when he collapsed nearing the bag. He writhed in pain on the ground for several minutes before he had to be helped to his feet and assisted in getting off the field. “It was painful for me to watch,” manager Pedro Grifol said. Moncada said it’s the most painful injury of his career. He labored to walk back into the clubhouse after speaking with reporters. He’s the third regular to be injured already this season for the White Sox, who are already missing outfielder Luis Robert Jr. (hip flexor) and slugger Eloy Jimenez (adductor) and off to a 2-9 start. The timetable for Robert’s return remains unknown while Jimenez could be back as early as this weekend. To take Moncada’s roster spot, the White Sox recalled outfielder Oscar Colás from Triple-A Charlotte. Moncada was batting .282 with three doubles in 11 games this season. A back injury limited him to 92 games in 2023, and Moncada dealt with oblique, quadriceps, hamstring and foot injuries in 2022. The White Sox signed him to a five-year, $70 million contract extension in 2020. He’ll make $24 million this season and the club holds a $25 million option for 2025.

Twins: Edouard Julien homered twice and scored three runs for the Twins to spark a slumping lineup and lead a 3-2 victory over the visiting Dodgers. Julien entered the afternoon in a 3-for-28 start to the season. He led off the first and fifth with opposite field drives into the bleachers in left for his first career multi-HR game. Max Muncy homered and Teoscar Hernández hit an RBI double for the Dodgers. Their opportunity to tie the game in the sixth was thwarted when Shohei Ohtani was thrown out by Carlos Correa at home to end that inning.

Phillies: J.T. Realmuto had two hits and scored two runs and Aaron Nola pitched six innings, leading the Phillies to a 4-3 victory over the host Cardinals. Realmuto was back in the starting lineup, hitting cleanup. He left Tuesday’s game after he was hit in the throat area on a Zack Wheeler wild pitch in the seventh. Brandon Marsh and Nick Castellanos each drove in a run in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie. The Phillies won the series to close a six-game road trip and even their record to 6-6. The Cardinals fell to 6-7.

Diamondbacks: Eugenio Suárez hit a two-out, two-run double in the ninth and the visiting Diamondbacks came back to beat the Rockies 5-3 and win the series. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added two hits and two RBIs for the Diamondbacks, including an RBI double to tie it at 3-all. The reigning NL champs have taken five of seven meetings this season against the Rockies.

Mariners: Cal Raleigh hit a two-run HR in the 10th and the Mariners beat the host Blue Jays 6-1 to avoid a three-game sweep. Raleigh connected on the first pitch he saw from Jays LHP Tim Mayza. The Mariners snapped a threegame losing streak and won for the second time in eight games. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his third HR, but the Jays left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth against Mariners RHP Andrés Muñoz, who pitched 1 innings for the victory.
