Carbone lifts Saints to victory

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday.

Baseball

St. Mary’s 1, Annapolis Area Christian 0:

Henry Carbone drove in the winning run in the fifth inning to lift the host Saints (7-3) over the Eagles (5-6). Brian Sands worked seven innings, gave up four hits and struck out six for the win. Teagan McDonough had a double for St. Mary’s.

Broadneck 4, Northeast 3, 8 innings:

Noah Forman scored from second base on a wild pitch to lift the visiting Bruins over the Eagles in eight innings. Winning pitcher Avik Cherry worked three innings, walked three and struck out two. Nick Cicale and Forman had two hits and Nate Schilling had a double for Broadneck. The Bruins totaled eight hits.

South River 14, North County 0:

Nolan Hooker threw a five-inning one-hitter and struck out seven as the host Seahawks shut out the Knights. Derek Hooker (2-for-3) had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double. South River had a 3-0 lead before scoring six runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning. The Seahawks totaled 10 hits.

Softball

Annapolis Area Christian Concordia Prep 3:

13, Sarah Billett threw five innings and struck out eight to lift the host Eagles (6-1, 4-0 Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n C Conference) over the Saints (1-4, 0-2). Ava Bowie had a triple with three RBIs, Ashlyn Case (4-for-4) had four RBIs, and Paige Stein, Bella Taylor and Ady Case had two hits each for AACS.

The host Eagles scored three runs in the seventh inning in a come-frombehind win over the Bruins.

Northeast 5, Broadneck 4: Girls lacrosse

South River 13, Huntingtow­n 6:

Ava Linnell scored four goals to lead the Seahawks over the host Hurricanes. South River got two goals from Reese Toth, Alex Alto, Annabella Burke and Kelly Webber.
