Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control
Give a friend a forever home. Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control is located off Interstate 97 at the police and fire headquarters complex in Millersville, 411 Maxwell Frye Road and is open to view and adopt its dogs, cats and other pets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesdays. The adoption fee for dogs is $17 and for younger cats $14, including spay/ neuter surgery, vaccinations and a microchip. Older cats and other pets such as Guinea pigs and rabbits are free to qualified adopters. The shelter’s simple adoption requirements are on the Anne Arundel Animal Care & Control website under “Adopt a Pet.” See “Animals at Our Shelter” for pet photos.
Carnitas is an adult female guinea pig, one of quite a few smaller critters, including rabbits, who are available at our shelter for no charge to approved adopters (see our website for adoption requirements). Please research any pet’s food, housing and social needs before adopting. Guinea pigs, who typically live 5 or 6 years, sometimes longer, are highly social, active animals who live in groups in the wild.
Karlden, an 53-pound American bulldog mix, has a “naturally sad” appearing face that belies his actual usually happy mood, dog volunteers say. They describe him as sweet, shy and beautiful. He has done very well with other dogs while at our shelter and previously lived with children (he was given up with another dog when the family became homeless). His former owner said Karlden “loves to cuddle.”
Silly is a good name for this female pit bull-type mix, a dog volunteer said: “She’s a bouncy girl when you have a treat — not in a snatch-it type of way, in a excited bunny hop type of way.” Silly, 3, who weighs 60 pounds, was found as a stray. Any owner who cannot keep a pet in Anne Arundel County can surrender it to us at no cost and hopefully provide background that will help the pet find a new home.
