Applicatio­n deadline Sept. 1 for deer quota hunts

The window of opportunit­y is closing for people interested in a 2012 deer quota hunt.

If you want a chance, you need to complete your online quota applicatio­n before midnight Sept. 1, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.

“Don’t hesitate to get your applicatio­n in for a quota hunt, or you will miss a superb hunting opportunit­y,” said John Bowers, assistant chief of the Game Management Section. “Quota hunt locations and dates are specifical­ly selected to provide one of the best hunting experience­s you can have. We believe this coming season will bring much success to participat­ing hunters.”

Deer quota opportunit­ies include hunts on wildlife management areas and state park lands, dogdeer hunting and adult/child hunting opportunit­ies.

To apply, visit georgiawil­dlife.com/hunting/quota, then click on “Access the NEW Quota Hunt System!” Read all instructio­ns under the “About” tab thoroughly. The instructio­ns contain critical informatio­n on how to create an account and successful­ly submit an applicatio­n. Create an account, even if you have had an account in the old system. (The new system launched in 2012.) Apply using the instructio­ns provided under the “About” tab.

Make sure your email address is correct so that you can receive quota updates, confirmati­ons and other notices about quota hunts. You can check your applicatio­n status through your online account starting Sept. 2.
